Abstract

411,062. Regulating. BOSCH AKT.- GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Jan. 6, 1934, No. 543. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1933. [Class 7 (vi).] In engines working with injection of liquid fuel, and in which pressure variations caused by the operation of the engine are used to act on a control member governing the speed, means are provided whereby the resistance opposing the movement of the control member in the speedreducing direction is suddenly increased as the control member approaches a position which would cause stoppage of the engine. Fig. 2 shows a control member 24 comprising a pivoted vane subjected to induction-pipe pressure admitted by a pipe 15, and to the action of a spring 27, the movements of the vane controlling the timing of the fuel-injection pumps 16 by means of a rack 23 and pinions 22. At the normal working speeds, the vane occupies the position I, and when running light the position II, while at position III the engine stops. As the vane reaches position II, an additional spring resistance 28 comes into operation to prevent stoppage of the engine, especially when the throttle is suddenly moved from an open to idling position. In a modification, the vane, when in position II, comes into contact with a spring stop, and the position of this may be controlled with the throttle by connections to the accelerator pedal. In a further form, the vane contacts with a valve so as to open same and connect the right-hand side of the vane to atmosphere. The vane may be replaced by a diaphragm, bellows, or piston.
