Abstract
617,179. Preventing stalling of engines. ALBION MOTORS, Ltd., and STEAD, E. B. April 2, 1946, No. 10224. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine for vehicles having vacuumoperated brakes and other accessories, a spring-urged idling valve 1, controlling an orifice 3 on the engine side of the throttle valve 6, closes when the throttle valve closes, setting up the high vacuum necessary to exhaust the vacuum tank through a pipe 9, and opens when the speed drops to admit idling air and avoid stalling of the engine. The valve 1 is so shaped that its position from a stop 4 bears a linear relation to the force due to the pressure difference closing the valve. Thus, if the valve opens when the speed has dropped to a predetermined value, it closes immediately it rises above the speed with the valve 6 still closed. The spring 2 is adjustable by means of locknuts 2a, 2b. Specification 497,878 is referred to.
