Abstract

918,489. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 15, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 43224/60. Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXVI] A governor 12, Fig. 1 controlling a fuel injection pump control rod 11, is overridden when the accelerator pedal 31 is depressed beyond a point of perceptible increase in resistance. As applied to a suction governor the accelerator pedal 31 is connected to the throttle valve 28 through a resilient lost motion device 29 and the governor suction chamber 13 is connected to the induction pipe through a port 33 controlled by a cock 32 actuated from the accelerator pedal by a lost motion link 40. In the full load position shown, the spring 29 is uncompressed and the cock 32 connects chamber 13 to the induction pipe. On further depression of the pedal 31, valve 28 remains stationary and spring 29 is overcome, providing an increase of resistance. Rod 40 turns cock 32 to open an orifice 35 to atmosphere to increase the pressure in chamber 13 so that the governor is set for operation at a higher speed. In addition the increase in pressure in chamber 13 enables a spring 23 between the maximum delivery stop 25 and the diaphragm to be overcome to produce an increased fuel supply. In a modification, Fig. 3, depression of the pedal 31 against spring 29 operates a lever 46 to contact a projection 47 on the rod 11 to render the governor 13 inoperative. A resilient link 50 may permit the governor to override the lever 46 at higher speeds.
