Abstract

1348757 Spray carburettors FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 46607/72 Heading F1B A carburettor has a throttle valve 22 rotatably mounted across an induction passage and movable from a closed position 34 through an open idle speed position 36 to a wide open throttle position by control means including first means 40 operatively biasing the throttle to the closed anti- "running-on" position, manifold vacuum sensitive means 42 being operable during engine running to move the throttle to the open idle position and other means operable during deceleration to delay return of the throttle valve towards the idle position. Operation:- The parts are in the position shown when the engine is stopped and the throttle is opened by a predetermined angle during starting. During running the manifold vacuum acts (via port 56) in chamber 50 to move diaphragm 46 rightwards until the spring 76 bottoms. The dashpot assembly 66, 58 also moves rightwards and spring 68 maintains the piston 66 with plunger 64 extended until the latter engages lever 38. When throttle 22 is rotated clockwise to a wide open position for acceleration the spring 68 fully extends piston 66 so that when the accelerator pedal is released the spring 40 biases the throttle to move quickly to idle speed position 36. Lever 38 engages plunger 64 moving it leftwards at a speed determined by the air leakage through orifice 70. After the engine stops the decay of vacuum in chamber 50 permits spring 76 to move diaphragm 46 and the dashpot assembly to the left to the position shown.
