Abstract

1,036,403. Spray carburetters. SOC. DU CARBURATEUR ZENITH. Feb. 18, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1962], No. 6414/63. Heading FIB In a carburetter having an engine driven volumetric pump 1 supplying a pair of orifices 27, 26, in a fuel delivery pipe 31 and a return pipe 36 respectively, and in which the pressure downstream of the orifices is maintained equal, control means 59 for the orifices are actuated in response to both inlet manifold pressure and engine speed. The pressures in the pipe 31 leading to a nozzle 3 in the inlet manifold, and the pipe 36, leading through pipe 38 to the pump inlet, are maintained equal by a valve 37 in the pipe 33 actuated by a piston 40 subject on opposite sides to the two pressures. The orifices 26, 27, are controlled by a needle valve 59a connected to a plunger 59 which is actuated by a capsule 61 controlled by inlet manifold pressure, the inner face 59b of the plunger being acted upon by the pressure downstream of orifice 26, which pressure varies with engine speed so that the valve 59a is adjusted in accordance with engine speed superimposed upon the inlet manifold pressure control. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the valve 59a is also adjusted in accordance with atmospheric pressure, or exhaust back pressure, by a piston 72 subject in its left hand face to inlet manifold pressure and on its right hand face to atmospheric pressure. In a further modification the piston 72 is actuated by the pressure in the fuel delivery and return pipes 18, 39. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the valve 59a is adjusted in accordance with engine speed by an engine driven centrifugal governor 102. In a further modification the adjustment of the fuel flow in accordance with engine speed is obtained by an orifice in parallel with either orifice 26 or 27 and adjusted by a plunger responsive to the pump delivery pressure.
