Abstract

768,323. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. April 22, 1955 [April 22, 1954], No. 11704/55. Class 7 (6). In a fuel injection engine having a main air throttle valve 2 and an injection pump 4 controlled by a suction-responsive device 10 connected by a pipe 7 to a tapping point 8 in the induction pipe 1 on the engine side of the throttle valve 2, a device 15 responsive to engine temperature is connected to an auxiliary throttle valve 23 by-passing the main throttle valve 2 and to a throttling device 19 disposed in a subsidiary tapping 12 connecting the main tapping 8 with a port 11 on the upstream side of the main throttle valve 2, the valves 19, 23, being closed at normal engine temperatures but opened when the engine is cold to provide increased power at idling. During normal running, the idling power is determined by the idling position of the main throttle valve 2, the valves 19, 23, being closed. When the engine is cold, however, the device 15 opens the valve 23 to allow extra air to by-pass the valve 2 and simultaneously opens the valve 19 to reduce the suction in the pipe 7 and hence increase the fuel supply to obtain increased power. The upstream end of the by-pass 13 may be open to atmosphere instead of into the induction pipe 1 and the device 15 may be responsive to the temperature of the cooling water, cooling air, or lubricating oil. In a modification, Fig. 2, the valves 19, 23, are replaced by a single slide valve 25 controlling the subsidiary tapping 12 and an auxiliary air passage 13 bypassing the main throttle valve 2.
