Abstract

1311722 Spray carburetters SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 14 April 1970 [15 April 1969] 17582/70 Heading F1B A carburetter having a choke valve 5, Fig. 1, which is eccentrically mounted so that the air flow tends to open it against a variable closing force exerted by a bi-metallic spiral 7 responsive to engine temperature; pneumatic means 8 sensitive to the suction downstream of throttle valve 2 to partially open the choke valve after the engine has started; and means 9 coupling the choke and throttle valves to enable the throttle valve to be partially open beyond its normal idling position when the engine is warming up; is characterized by a diaphragm 32 sensitive to fluid pressure varying with engine speed for reducing the variable closing force exerted by the spiral 7 as the engine speed increases during warm up. The spiral is responsive to the temperature of engine lubricating oil or, as shown of engine cooling water delivered into jacket 27 of housing 26 via passage 28, and the diaphragm 32 is subjected to cooling water pressure varied in accordance with engine speed by an engine-driven circulating pump 30. An engine-driven oil pump for actuating accessories may be employed instead of pump 30. The coupling means 9 comprises linkage 23, 24, 25 and a stepped-cam and pawl arrangement 17, 19 which during cold starting assume the positions shown, but after partial or full warm-up assume positions in which the pawl 19 engages step 17b or 17c to cause the throttle valve 2 to move closer to or into its normal idling position respectively.
