Abstract
1,125,509. Closed circuit engines; regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. Aug. 5, 1966 [Aug. 7, 1965], No. 35144/66. Heading F1B. In a closed-circuit engine 14 mounted within a closed chamber 10, e.g. a torpedo casing, the supply of oxygen and fuel mixed with the recirculated gases is controlled as a function of the position of the intake pipe throttle valve 18, the supply also being connected in response to the pressure upstream of the throttle valve and to the pressure difference across said valve. The exhaust gases are cooled in a cooler 28 before entering the casing 10, excess waste gases being pumped outside by a compressor 16 and condensed water being removed by a bilge pump 33. The oxygen control valve 22 is controlled by the oxygen pressure and temperature, the pressure upstream of the throttle valve, and the pressure drop across the throttle valve. The fuel injection pump 23 is controlled by a speed governor 26 and in accordance with the oxygen valve position and the pressure and temperature upstream of the oxygen valve. A throttle valve 30 in the compressor intake is controlled by the position of the throttle valve 18. A pressure sensitive device adjusts the valves 18, 30, if a predetermined maximum pressure in the circuit is exceeded.
