Abstract
761,092. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. March 26, 1954 [March 26, 1953], No. 8955/54. Class 7 (6). In a fuel injection engine in which the fuel supply is adjusted in dependence upon the position of a main throttle valve 2, Fig. 1, in the air intake pipe 1, a thermostat 9 actuates an auxiliary throttle member 8 to adjust the fuel-air ratio upon variations of the temperature of the intake air and/or of the walls in the engine contacted by said air. In Fig. 1 the fuel injection pump control rod 3 and throttle valve 2 are controlled simultaneously by an operating lever 7 and an auxiliary throttle member 8 is actuated by the thermostat 9 subject to the temperature of the intake air so that the valve 8 opens with increasing air temperature to maintain a substantially constant fuel-air ratio. The fuel injection pump may alternatively be controlled by a device 13, Fig. 3, responsive to the suction in the intake pipe slightly downstream of the valve 2 and the auxiliary throttle valve 14 may be situated in a passage 15 by-passing the valve 2. The thermostat 9, may be situated partly in the air intake pipe 1, Fig. 4, and partly in the cooling water jacket 20 surrounding the intake pipe.
