Abstract

811,904. Regulating; starting fuel-ignition engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. March 15, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 8666/57. Classes 7(3) and 7(6). The control rod 49 of a fuel injection pump is connected to a lever 47 pivotally mounted on the end of a bell crank lever 46 and connected by a pin-and-slot connection 51 to a second lever 30 which is pivoted at 29 and moved by a cam 28 in accordance with engine speed and throttle opening, the position of the rod as set by the cam 28 being adjusted in accordance with air pressure or temperature by the lever 46. The cam 28 is adjusted angularly by a governor 16 actuating a lever 18 carrying a rack 22 engaging a pinion 23 on the shaft 24 of the cam 28, which shaft is slidable axially by a lever 26 connected to the throttle valve operating mechanism. The lever 47 is mounted in a forked portion of the lever 30 and the lever 46 on which it is pivoted is adjusted in accordance with atmospheric pressure and the temperature of the intake air by a bellows 40 and thermostat 38 respectively, the levers 47, 30, being arranged parallel to one another at minimum fuel supply so that the effect produced by adjustment of the lever 46 is zero at minimum fuel supply and increases as the fuel supply increases. The lever 30 is pivoted at 29 on a slidable bar 32 controlled by a thermostat 34 responsive to cooling water temperature, the bar being moved to the left when the engine is cold to provide an increased fuel supply and to open a passage 61 connected to the intake pipe downstream of the throttle valve to provide an increased supply of air for idling. An excessive fuel supply for starting is obtained by energization of an electromagnet 56 which which rotates lever 53 to move lever 30 in the increased fuel direction.
