Abstract
820,349. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. July 26. 1957 [July 31, 1956], No. 23771/57. Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXIX] A regulator for a mixture-compressing injection-type internal-combustion engine comprises a fuel injection adjuster directly operated by a control such as an accelerator pedal, a throttle regulating the combustion air, operative means connected with the throttle and under the combined influence of the control and an induction pressure-responsive means, and fuel injection resetting means under the influence of the induction pressure-responsive means and adapted for transmitting to the injection adjuster a corrective resetting which is performed against the direct operation of the control when the throttle is fully open at a time when the induction pressure is less than that corresponding to the maximum injection. In the arrangement shown the throttle valve 10 is operated by a servo-piston 12 through a control valve comprising a piston valve 16 mounted within a spring-loaded ported sleeve 15. The accelerator pedal 2 operates the control rod 4 of the fuel injection pump 5 through a spring 8 and rod 3, the latter of which carries a pin 27 engaging a slotted arm 25 by which a cross shaft 24 and cam 23 are rotated to operate the sleeve 15 through a pivoted arm 21. The piston valve 16 is controlled by induction pressure through a pipe 28, a bellows 30, and a floating lever 32 which has a movable fulcrum 33 carried by a bell crank lever 37 operated by a temperature compensater 33 in the induction pipe. In the event of abnormally low induction pressure, bellows 30 raises piston valve 16, whereby pressure fluid is applied to the top of piston 12, which descends and uncovers the end of a pipe 39 by which the pressure fluid is fed to the underside of a spring loaded piston 41, thereby raising a rod 43 which strikes an arm 45 carried by cross shaft 24. By this means arm 25 is rotated anti-clockwise to move rod 3 and pump control 4 to the left, against the resistance of spring 8, even with the accelerator pedal 2 fully depressed, thereby reducing the fuel supply, and raising sleeve 15 to cut off the fluid supply to piston 12. The pivoted end 20 of rod 21 is carried by an eccentric which can be adjusted by a hand lever under cold starting conditions.
