Abstract
696,832. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. C.A.V., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1951 [Nov. 8, 1950], No. 27268/50. Class 135 The rack a of a fuel-injection pump in a supercharged internal combustion engine is adjusted in accordance with boost pressure by an air-operated servo-piston h through a spring-loaded lever c and controlled by a stem o which, in conjunction with an opening q in the servo-piston, constitutes a control valve which is actuated by a coaxial spring- loaded piston k subject to boost pressure admitted through a passage n. Boost pressure is transmitted through a restricted passage r to the right hand side of the servo-piston which takes up a position in which leakage through the valve o, q results in a pressure which balances the force of the spring d. Air passed by the valve o, q escapes through a vent i. The pump may also have a maximum speed governor. In a modification, the stem o is replaced by a rod which at one end abuts the piston k and at the other end operates a spring-loaded lift valve seating on the servo-piston. The lever c is pivoted intermediate its ends.
