Abstract

696,791. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. MOTORPAL, NARODNI PODNIK, and STRITZKO, V. July 31, 1951 [Aug. 2, 1950], No. 18139/51. Class 135 A hydraulic regulator for the fuel injection pumps of an internal combustion engine comprises a centrifugal pump 1 driven from the engine shaft and housed in a casing which also includes a spring- loaded piston 8 connected to the control rod 37<SP>1</SP> of the injection pumps, and the piston 8 separates the suction and pressure spaces A, B, respectively, of the pump 1. The movements of piston are transmitted to the control rod 37<SP>1</SP> through a lever 12 which is pivoted at its ends on the control rod and the stem of the piston, respectively. The fulcrum 13 of the lever 12 is carried by a bell crank 16, 17 which can be adjusted from the accelerator pedal to set the speed of the engine, the movement of the bell crank being limited by stops 41, 42. The piston is shown in the position it takes up when the engine stops and, in this position, liquid can be fed into the pump casing through a radial passage in the end cap 7 of the casing, and radial passages and a longitudinal passage 46 in the piston stem. In this position also, the piston contacts a plunger to open a valve 38 to allow gas in the system to escape. During the initial movement of the piston to the left, i.e. during the idling range, it is loaded solely by a light spring 20. As the speed increases and the piston moves further to the left, an abutment 26 on the piston stem contacts and moves an abutment 25 which brings a stronger spring 18 in play, although this second spring may be so chosen that no movement of the piston takes place over an intermediate range of speeds i.e. until the fluid pressure on the piston increases sufficiently to overcome the spring 18. The pressure and suction sides of the piston may be interconnected by an adjustable throttle.
