Abstract
619,529. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. DAVEY, PAXMAN, & CO., Ltd., and HOWE, A. G. July 3, 1946, No. 19927. [Class 135] A centrifugal speed governor, e.g. for an internal-combustion engine, is operatively connected to the control valve of a fluid-pressure servomotor and provided with a second servomotor for setting the operational speed of the governor and comprising a cylinder and a pair of pistons separated by a spring, the loading on which is adjustable by manually-operated remote control means acting through a flexible drive operatively connected to the control valve of the second servomotor. As shown, the engine-driven governor weights 1 of a Diesel engine coact with the lower end of a valve plunger 2 having recesses adapted to cooperate with a ported follow-up sleeve 5 formed integral with a piston 6 to control the supply of pressure oil from a line 18 to the upper side of the piston and the exhaust therefrom to a sump. The upper end of the sleeve 5 coacts with a bell-crank 9 to control through a rod 40 a fuel injection pump or pumps, whilst the upper end of the plunger 2 coacts with one arm of a lever 17 the other arm of which is loaded by a spring 12 disposed between pistons 11, 13 of the second servomotor 10. The piston 13 is formed integral with a ported follow-up sleeve 19 which coacts with recesses formed in a tubular valve member 20 to supply oil from the line 18 to the underside of the piston 13 and the exhaust therefrom to the sump. To set the operational speed of the governor, a hand-wheel 26 is rotated and through a flexible drive 27, nut and screw 24, 25, and a bell-crank 23 moves the valve 20, and hence the piston 13, up or down to increase or decrease the spring loading.
