Abstract

626,549. Fluid-pressure servomotor control system. C.A.V., Ltd., and NICOLLS, W. E. W. May 7, 1947, No. 12320. [Class 135] A hydraulic governor for internal-combustion engines comprises an engine-driven pump, a circulating system associated with the pump, a movable member responsive to the fluid pressure in the system for actuating the fuel pump regulating means, a spring-loaded valve for stabilizing the governor responsive to movements of the movable member, and a dashpot device for controlling the rate of movement of the said valve. A pump 2 supplies pressure fluid direct to one face of a spring-loaded piston 16 and through a spring-loaded constantpressure valve 12 to a chamber 7 in communication with the other face of the piston. The piston-rod 18 is connected to a lever 19 actuating the regulating rod 22 of a fuel pump. The movements of the lever 19 are communicated through a spring 27 to a stabilizing device including a valve 15 in which a groove 23 controls the leak of fluid from the chamber 7 to the inlet side of the pump 2. Movement of the valve 15 is damped by means of a dashpot comprising a closed chamber 24 in communication with the chamber 7 through a restricted orifice 29 in the valve.
