760,055. Fluid-actuated valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 30, 1954 [April 6, 1953], No. 9304/54. Class 135. In a pressure-regulating valve having a piston-actuated valve member 11 controlling the supply of pressure air to the combustion chamber of a device burning liquid fuel, the passage through the valve connecting its inlet and outlet chambers 3, 5 comprises a passage 36 tapering towards the outlet chamber and having a tapered counterbore 35 so that the pressure air passing through the passage is directed towards the rod 12 connecting the valve member 11 with its actuating piston 13 to reduce turbulence and the velocity of the air in the chamber 5 and acting on the underside of the piston 13. The piston is loaded on one side by a spring 15 urging the valve member towards closure and on its other side by fluidpressure transmitted through a passage 28 and maintained substantially constant by a pressurereducing valve 27. A plate 16 through which the rod 12 loosely passes further shields the piston from velocity shock. A bleed passage 33 through the piston prevents an excessive buildup of pressure in the space above the piston. The area of the piston 13 and the valve 11, the spring loading and the reduced pressure acting on the upper face of the piston are selected to maintain the outlet pressure substantially constant.
