Abstract

Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XXIX] Governing means for a continuous combustion turbine engine in which the supply of liquid fuel to burners 9 is controlled by a pressure-balanced device. 14 actuating either a by-pass valve 13 of a fixed displacement fuel pump 7 or stroke-varying means of a variable-stroke pump, and in which the pressure balanced device is controlled by a closure member 22 in a vent 19, has a spring 28 acting on the vent closure member in the closing sense and a fluid-pressure operated device, i.e. a diaphragm 27, acting on the vent closure member in the opening sense, the diaphragm being subject to the pressures across a restricted orifice 33, 34 through which is passed a flow of fluid proportional to the engine speed, and control means 30, 31, 32 to vary simultaneously the size of the restricted orifice 33, 34 to change the pressures acting on the diaphragm and, in the same controlling sense, the loading of the spring 28. The arrangement is stated to give a more even automatic regulation over the whole speed range than systems using either an adjustable spring alone or an adjustable orifice. The orifice is included in a circuit 40, 41 having an engine-driven pump 39 which may be of fixedstroke, positive-displacement type, or of centrifugal type in which case a restriction 42 is included. Alternatively, a centrifugal governor may control flow in proportion to engine speed.
