Abstract
707,000. Gas turbine plant LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. July 18, 1952 [July 31, 1951], No. 18078/51, Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXIX] The supply of liquid fuel from an enginedriven centrifugal pump b the burner c of a gas turbine or jet propulsion engine is controlled by two throttles d, r in the supply pipe a, the main throttle d which is normally open being operated by liquid pressure acting on a piston f under the control of a governing device o responsive to engine speed and the other throttle r which lies between the pump and the main throttle being opened gradually against the action of a spring s as the engine speed increases by the fuel pressure in the supply pipe a. The slidable throttle d co-operates with an orifice e and its operating piston f which is loaded in the throttle opening direction by a spring h is exposed on the spring side to the pressure in a pipe i connected to the pump delivery and on its opposite side to the pressure on the inlet side of the throttled. The pipe i may be controlled by a valve responsive to a fluid pressure related to engine speed. As shown, however, the pipe i has a gap m controlled by a shutter k. The latter is operated by a spring-loaded diaphragm p exposed to the delivery pressure of the pump b or of a separate engine-driven pump. In a modification, the spring-loaded throttle comprises a cup-shaped member with notches in its free edge to permit a restricted flow in the closed position. This member is carried by a spring-loaded diaphragm actuated by the delivery pressure.
