Abstract

1,098,060. Spray carburetters. SOCIETE INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES S.I.B.E. Feb. 23, 1966 [Feb. 24, 1965; March 18, 1965], No.7961/66. Heading F1B. The fuel supply is cut-off, or reduced, at overrunning by means 71, Fig. 10, responsive at 70 to intake manifold suction and at 74 to a pressure or suction which varies with engine speed. In Fig. 10 the diaphragm 71 controls a valve 8 in the idling fuel passage 4. An air pressure responsive to engine speed is produced in chamber 74 by an engine driven pump 26. During over-running conditions the high suction at 73 downstream of the throttle valve 2, acting in chamber 70, combined with the air pressure in chamber 74, overcomes spring 69 and valve 8 closes passage 4. When the speed drops to idling the reduced pressure in chamber 74 permits spring 69 to re-open passage 4. In Fig. 1 the pump pressure acts through pipe 25 on a second diaphragm 19 actuating a valve 20 which is normally open to admit atmospheric pressure to the suction space 14 and prevent closing of valve 8. At over-running the pump pressure closes valve 20 and diaphragm 11 closes valve 8. Alternatively Fig. 4 (not shown) the pump 26 may produce a suction in pipe 25 instead of a pressure and in Fig. 5 (not shown) a suction actuated valve (39) renders the diaphragm pump inoperative during normal running. In a constant suction type carburetter, Fig. 8, the diaphragm 11, controlled by suction through pipe 15 and pump pressure through pipe 25, actuate a valve 67 in a suction passage 60 leading to the suction chamber 53 controlling the air piston 46. During normal running and idling the valve 67 is closed and the piston 46 is controlled by the suction in space 48 transmitted through orifice 49. At over-running, valve 67 opens and the high suction at orifice 59 modifies the suction in chamber 53 to lift the piston 46, reducing the suction at the fuel orifice 56 and thereby reducing or cutting off the fuel. In Fig. 15 the fuel cut-off valve 8 is actuated by a solenoid 86 controlled by a diaphragm 71a subjected through pipe 75 to the pump pressure, the inlet or delivery valve of the pump being controlled by a diaphragm responsive to manifold suction in pipe 72.
