Abstract

1,242,288. Spray carburetters. NISSAN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Dec.4, 1968 [March 30, 1968], No.57538/68. Heading F1B. An air chamber 13 in the idling system of a carburetter receiving air through an orifice 12 is connected to the main induction passage downstream of the butterfly valve 10 through a valve 27 and air is fed through orifices 14 and 15 to mix with fuel flowing through a passage 17 for passage to slow running and idling ports 20 and 21 in the main induction passage. On overrunning the valve 27 is opened by the vacuum downstream of the butterfly valve 10 and air flows through the conduit 23 and orifice 24. Simultaneously the pressure in the chamber 13 falls and the flow of air through the orifices 14 and 15 is reduced to produce a richer mixture for delivery through the ports 20 and 21. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the air chamber (13<SP>1</SP>) is connected to the main induction passage downstream of the butterfly valve through a solenoid actuated valve (32). The valve solenoid is energized under the control of a diaphragm switch 34 subject to the intake manifold vacuum. Air to mix with fuel in the idling system flows through one orifice (14) communicating directly with the atmosphere and a second orifice (15) communicating with the atmosphere via the air chamber (13<SP>1</SP>) and an orifice (12<SP>1</SP>).
