Abstract

1411159 Spray carburetters FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 1 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50767/73 Heading F1B A carburetter having means for compensating for changes in air density has an induction passage 14, a Venturi 12, a choke valve 20, an air passage 30 in parallel with the induction passage and which opens into the induction passage downstream of the Venturi, and ambient pressure and temperature responsive means 56 for controlling the overall air/ fuel ratio in the intake manifold by controlling airflow through the air passage and control means 60 coupled to the choke valve 20 to maintain a controlled supply of air to the air passage 30 when the choke valve is rotated to a choking position. Flow through passage 30 is controlled by valve member 38 which includes a first valve 40 which admits air to the induction manifold through a port 36 when the engine is idling and a second valve 46 which allows air to flow to a port 34. Spring 49 biases the valves to the closed position and its effect is overcome by a capsule 56 acting through lever 52 when the capsule expands as the air density decreases. A valve 60 controlling flow of air into the chamber 29 is mechanically linked to choke valve 18 and when the valve 18 is in the closed position the valve 60 is in a position to allow sufficient air to pass to correct the air/fuel ratio when ambient conditions require it.
