Abstract
1,068,729. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Dec. 20, 1965 [Dec. 24, 1964], No. 53852/65. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump the quantity of fuel delivered by cam actuated piston 1, through outlet valve 5 to an engine cylinder or through a distributor to several cylinders, is controlled by a regulating valve 15 which controls communication between spill passages 23 and 24. The valve 15 is actuated against the bias of spring 16 by fuel delivered from auxiliary piston 6 the effect of which is modified by a throttled connection 30a to a chamber 31, housing an accumulator piston 32, and a throttled return passage 25 to the auxiliary cylinder 7. The throttle 30a is controlled by the edge 38 of rotatable throttle member 36 and the initial position of the valve 15 is determined by an adjustable stop 18, 19, the stop and throttle being adjustable simultaneously by an adjustable linkage 40, 41, 42 between stops 43 and 44 which set the idling and maximum speeds respectively of the engine. At idling speed the movement of the valve 15 is controlled by the setting of throttle 30a and at maximum speed the throttle 30a is closed and the speed is determined by the throttle 26 restricting flow back to the auxiliary cylinder 7 from regulating valve chamber 14 and preventing the valve 15 engaging stop 18 between delivery strokes of the piston 1. The inlets 3 and 9 to the cylinders 2 and 7 are arranged such that the delivery of the auxiliary piston 6 begins before that of injection piston 1.
