Abstract

1,147,672. Fuel-injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. -June 1, 1966 [June 1, 1965], No.24412/66. Heading F1A. A combined fuel-injection pump and distributer is regulated by a reciprocating and rotatable shuttle valve 13 controlling a by-pass 14, shuttle 13 being moved on its forward stroke by the delivery of a piston 5 moving in synchronism with the pump piston 4, the return movement of the shuttle by spring 19 being braked by a throttle 25 on the "liquid stop" principle, so that above a predetermined engine speed the by-pass is held open. Excess fuel for starting and adjustment of the regulation according to load is provided by a control edge 18 on shuttle 13. Edge 18 co-operates with by-pass port 39 according to the angular setting of the shuttle by an automatic control comprising a piston 32 subjected to the delivery pressure of a feed pump 7 which is dependent on engine speed. Movement of piston 32 is controlled by a series of springs, Fig.5 (not shown), which are effective at various engine speeds to provide excess fuel for starting, and fuel for normal running without smoke emission. The spring- loading is adjusted by a lever (49) to set the engine speed up to the predetermined speed at which the "liquid stop" operates. In another embodiment, the "liquid stop" is used throughout the engine speed range by adjusting the throttle 25 by linkage 49a. The engine is stopped by rotating manual control 42 to rotate shuttle 13 to a position in which by-pass 39 is open continuously.
