Abstract

1,122,890. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. May 25, 1967 [May 26, 1966], No. 24277/67. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump of the type in which a shuttle spill valve 17 is actuated by liquid pressure from an auxiliary pump 2, portion of the liquid delivered by the pump 2 is discharged through an orifice 27 to a chamber 28 at the end of a piston valve cylinder 29, the piston valve 30 having a passage 31 and throttling port 31a whereby flow from the chamber 28 to low pressure is regulated. The diameters of the valves 17, 30 are equal and the springs 34 exert less force than the spring 25. The loading of springs 34 and the stroke of the piston valve 30 are adjustable by the screws 38, 39 respectively. On starting liquid from the auxiliary pump flows through the throttle 27 and portion is discharged through the passage 31 until the port 31a is closed, portion is then absorbed displacing the valve 30 until it engages the stop 39, only then may the valve 17 operate hence increased quantities of fuel are supplied on starting. The return movement of the valve 30 is restricted by the throttle 27.
