Abstract

1363740 Spray carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 58148/71 Addition to 1336606 Heading F1B The fuel injection system claimed in claim 1 of the parent Specification 1336606 is modified in that the distributer valve is a piston movable in the bore of a cylinder, the pressure line connecting to a part of said bore which forms a pressure chamber, via a throttle valve which provides a greater throttle cross-section for pressure fluid in the direction of inflow to the pressure chamber than in the direction of outflow. Plate 2 is moved by the force due to air entering the intake 1, and displaces a fuel distributing valve 11 against a force exerted on the end-face 12 of the valve by fuel in a pressure chamber 34. The fuel reaching the chamber 34 is drawn from the line 17, connected to the output of a fuel pump 15, through a fixed throttle valve 35 and enters the chamber through a port 59, controlled by a throttle valve 57 which includes an axially movable plate 58. The plate 58 has a small central hole 63 aligned with the port 59 and a larger hole 64 off-set from the port 59. When fuel enters the chamber 34 the plate 58 is displaced towards the valve 11 so that fuel flows through both apertures, but flow of fuel in the opposite direction causes the plate to seat against the plate 60 in which the port 59 is formed, so that only the smaller hole 63 is open. The throttle valve 57 prevents the fuel-air ratio increasing at low engine speed, which would otherwise occur due to pulsation in the air supply and in the movement of the plate 2. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown) the axially movable plate has a triangular periphery, so that when it is displaced, fuel flows around the edges. In a second modification, an apertured reed valve is used, and in a third modification a ball check-valve is used.
