Abstract

1294919 Spray carburettors; fuel injection systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 8 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 33084/70 Heading F1B A fuel injection system operable with continuous injection into the induction pipe of a spark ignition I. C. engine comprises a throttling member 2 actuable by pressures in the induction pipe upstream and downstream of the throttling member, a throttle valve 3 and a fuel metering valve 11 having an inclined control edge 141 and turnable by the throttling member to open a flow crosssection 22 dependent on its angular position. The throttling member piston 5 may be replaced by a membrane. Fuel from pump 16 is supplied via line 18, groove 14, flow cross-section 22, conduit 23, grooves 25, 28 and line 29 to a distributer 45 and thence to fuel injectors 34. A control spool 26, actuable by a diaphragm 27 which is subjected to the pressures upstream or downstream of flow cross-section 22, acts to maintain a constant pressure drop across the latter. The datum position of metering valve 11 is set by screw 36. When an electromagnet 37 is energized e.g. during over-run conditions, the flow cross-section 22 is closed and fuel, at a pressure determined by valve 20, is fed via groove 14 line 41 and distributer 46 to act on a closure member 38 which is displaced against spring 39 to close injection opening 40. The metering valve 11 has a groove 42 and a spring- loaded ball 44 engaging a connecting bore 43 which serves to maintain line 41 full of fuel when the electromagnet is de-energized.
