Abstract
1319540 Regulating fuel injection engines ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 9 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 33265/70 Heading F1B A fuel injection system comprises in an air intake pipe 1, a manually operable throttle 3 and a throttling element 2, responsive to pressure upstream and downstream of it, controlling a fuel metering valve 14 to operate with a constant pressure gradient, and a fuel injection nozzle in which the fuel is treated with air from the intake pipe. A control spool of the metering valve has an oblique control edge 14' which is rotated to control a flow cross-section, the spool being also axially displaceable to shut off fuel flow. The fuel injection nozzle has a liquid nozzle 40, a space 51 for introducing air, an intermediate nozzle 52 and a normally open liquid nozzle closing element 38 hydraulically controlled by the control spool. A pump 16 supplies fuel via line 19, flow area 22, chamber 25 and line 29 to the fuel nozzle 34 where it enters a chamber 50 tangentially. The pressure across flow area 22 is controlled by a spool 26 moved by a diaphragm 27 subjected to the fuel pressure upstream and downstream of area 22. When fuel-flow should cease e.g. during engine overrun, an electromagnet 37 is energized to move spool 14 to the right thereby admitting fuel pressure via groove 42 and line 41 to act on member 38 which closes nozzle 40. When fuel flow is restarted member 38 is spring returned and the fuel pressure in line 41 is relieved through line 43. A valve 44 maintains the fuel in line 41 at low-pressure. In modifications element 2 may be replaced by a piston, pivoting valve or a baffle plate and piston 5 may be replaced by a diaphragm.
