Abstract

1,162,513. Spray carburetters. PETROL INJECTION Ltd. and H.E. JACKSON. Sept. 5, 1966 [Sept. 8, 1965], No. 38394/65. Heading F1B. In a fuel injection system comprising lowpressure injectors fed by a circulation system having supply and return pipes 1, 2, back pressure valves 3, 7, maintain the pressure in the pipes 1, 2 higher than that required at the injectors to avoid vaporization, the device 3 producing a pressure drop in the fuel flowing to the injectors. The fuel is supplied to pipe 1 at a pressure varying with engine speed by an engine driven impeller 13 fed at constant pressure by a pump 12, the delivery pressure of which is controlled by a spring-loaded by-pass valve 38. The fuel flows through a metering valve 68, e.g. of the construction described in the Specification/ 1, 140, 901, to the back pressure valve 3 comprising a spring-loaded diaphragm 19 which is lifted off an annular seat to permit fuel to flow through an orifice (22) therein Fig. 2 (not shown) to chamber (18) connected to the injectors 51. Valve 68 is controlled by intake manifold suction. The remaining fuel returns through an adjustable restriction 6 to pipe 2 which includes back pressure diaphragm valve 37 and an air separator 8. The injectors may be of the construction described in Specification 1, 140, 901 and include a fuel passage 52, with a restriction 55, surrounded by a passage open to atmosphere through orifice 56.
