Abstract

1355921 I C engine fuel injection systems SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 21 June 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 28982/72 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2M] In a fuel injection system having at least one electromagnetic injector 12 which is energized for a fraction of each rotation of a continuously rotatable member 10 with the value of the fraction being determined by the position of the throttle member 3 in the air intake pipe 1, the pressure of the fuel supplied to the injector is controlled by two pressure regulators 17 and 41. The regulator 17 has a diaphragm 20 subject on opposite sides to the pressure between the member 3 and the operator controllable throttle member 2 and atmospheric pressure to control the opening of the valve 18 which is subject to the fuel pressure at the outlet of the regulator 41. The regulator 41 has a first fuel flow path from the inlet 23 to the outlet 24 which is open to permit the outlet pressure of the pump 13 to act on the valve 18, except when the engine starter motor is in operation. The second fuel flow path through the regulator 41 includes a spring-biased valve 27 which opens at a higher fuel pressure than the valve 18 and provides an increased fuel pressure in the line 16 connecting the pump 13 to the injector 12 when the switch 51 coupled to the starter motor is closed and the solenoid 42 is energized to close the valve 38 in the first fuel flow path. The biasing- spring 29 of the valve 27 abuts a wax thermostat 30 surrounded by the fuel so that the biasing force decreases with increase in fuel temperature. The signals provided by the member 10 and the potentiometer 4 are processed by an electronic device 7 which may be as described in Specification 1266803.
