Abstract
1,216,979. Regulating I.C. engines. June 27, 1969 [June 27, 1968], No. 32493/69. Heading F1B. [Also in Division G1] In an I.C. engine fuel injection system, fuel enrichment is provided during acceleration by providing a throttling device downstream of the butterfly valve 50, there being an adjustible time lag between the opening of the butterfly valve 50 and the throttling device during acceleration such that fuel arrives at the injection valves in advance of the increased intake air pressure. As shown, the throttling device is a further butterfly valve 55 connected by linkage to the diaphragm 61 of a differential pressure box 62, one chamber 63 of which is connected via a restrictor 70 upstream of the valve 55 and the other chamber 64 of which is connected downstream of the valve 55. The pressure box 41 operating the core 39 of a transformer in the injection valve opening pulse duration control circuit is connected in the manifold between the valves 50, 55. The cross-sectional opening of restrictor 70 may be adjustible with temperature, e.g. by means of a bi-metal spring, to provide increased enrichment when the engine is cold. The butterfly valve 55 may be replaced by an air valve.
