Abstract
1313383 Spray carburetters BENDIX CORP 24 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 36096/70 Heading F1B A carburetter comprises a fuel bowl, an induction passage containing a throttle 20, Fig.3 and a fuel enrichment system in which an air passage 92 connects with a fluid passage 90, 94, 96, 70, 72, 74 to form a fuel-air emulsion for delivery downstream of the throttle and a valve 80 downstream of the air connection is controlled by a thermostatic element 102 in response to engine temperature, the valve being opened by a solenoid 120 when the engine starter switch is closed. When the engine is cold element 102 moves valve 80 to the partially open position, Fig. 3, and on operation of the starter switch the solenoid 120 moves the valve 80 to the fully open position to give maximum fuel enrichment. When the engine runs and the starter switch is opened a spring 130 tends to close the valve 80 which is prevented from closing by the element 102 until the latter is heated by warm air from conduit 118 which leads to a heat transfer means (not described) on the exhaust manifold. In a modification the element 102 is replaced by a coiled bi-metallic spring element (140), Fig. 5 (not shown), which is anchored at its inner end and connected at its outer end to the valve member and to a vacuum piston (162) acted on by the induction vacuum. The latter tends to close the valve when the engine starts to run.
