Abstract

1,157,887. Fuel-injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1966 [Aug. 12, 1965], No.34907/66. Heading F1A. A fuel-injection pump comprises a reciprocating and rotating piston 4 drawing fuel from an inlet chamber 6 via passages 8 and 10, and delivering the fuel to outlet passages 12 via distributer groove 11, delivery being regulated according to engine speed by a by-pass valve 13 in a by-pass 14, 16 valve 13 being actuated by an auxiliary pump piston 5 supplying liquid via a throttle valve 23 which is moved against a spring 29 by the auxiliary pump pressure to open the throttle passage 22 during the right-ward movement of by-pass valve 13, and is moved into its throttling position by the spring during the left-ward movement of valve 13 to brake this movement on the "hydraulic stop" principle. Valve 23 has a helical surface 31 so that rotation of the valve adjusts the throttle crosssection. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the throttle valve (24) is spring-loaded against a stop which is adjustable to vary the throttle cross-section, and an additional fixed adjustable throttle (36b) is provided to prevent racing of the engine if throttle valve (24) jams open. A passage 34 communicating with the fuel tank limits the rightward movement of by-pass valve 13 and withdraws fuel impurities passing beyond throttle 22.
