Abstract

983,141. Gas turbine plant. PLESSEY CC. Ltd. June 8, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20426/60. Heading F1G. [Also in Division G3] A fuel supply system for a gas turbine engine comprises a pump 10 delivering fuel through a throttle formed by ports 18 and spool valve 16 to the burners 20, a spill valve 23 maintaining the pressure drop across the throttle constant. The spool valve 16 is connected to a diaphragm 26 which divides the housing into two chambers 24, 25, the diaphragm being loaded by a spring 27 towards the chamber 24. The chamber 24 is fed with the engine compressor outlet pressure past a throttle 30 while the chamber 25 is open to atmosphere. The diaphragm 26 carries a valve seat for a spring loaded vent valve closure 31 which is provided with a head 34 co-operating with a manually adjustable sleeve 33 to control the extent of movement of the valve closure under the action of its loading spring. In operation, as the engine starts and its speed increases the pressure in the chamber 24 increases thus moving the spool valve 16 to increase fuel flow to the burners, the vent valve 31, remaining closed. At the predetermined engine speed, selected by the position of sleeve 33, movement of the valve closure 31 is arrested and any increase in pressure in the chamber 24 causes movement of the diaphragm 26 to open the vent valve to allow escape from chamber 24 to chamber 25 and atmosphere thus preventing movement of the spool valve. The sleeve 17 of the throttle valve rotates at engine speed and carries a governor 38 which maintains the predetermined engine speed constant by movement of this sleeve to control the throttle.
