Abstract

638,325. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. BRYCE FUEL INJECTION, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1947, No. 30576. [Class 135] A hydraulic governor, e.g. for variable-speed fuel injection engines comprises an enginedriven pump in a liquid circulating system, a manually-variable leak-off orifice, and a spring- loaded control plunger subject to the pressure downstream of the orifice while a constant pressure is maintained upstream of the orifice. A three-gear pump 7, 8, 9 delivers liquid from the chamber 2 to the passage 12 leading to one or more orifices 18 in the cylinder 19 in which slides a plunger 20 connected to the engine fuel control member and loaded by the spring 21 to move the control member to the minimum fuel position. The plunger has one or more grooves 23, the edges of which control the orifices according to the angular position of the plunger when rotated by a speed control lever. The pump draws liquid from the cylinder through the passage 11 while a constant pressure is maintained in the passage 12 by a spring-loaded release valve 15 controlling the return passage 17 to the chamber 2. In a modification, the gear pump is replaced by two pumps in a chamber connected to the orifice and the release valve. One pump maintains a constant pressure in the chamber while the other draws liquid from the control cylinder and delivers it to the chamber. Specifications 529,760, 555,630 and 638,324 are referred to.
