Abstract

839,796. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. April 11, 1958 [April 13, 1957], No. 11497/58. Addition to 818,699. Class 135. The fuel injection quantity and timing in a fuel injection internal combustion engine are controlled by servo-pistons 68, 10, respectively, under the control of a centrifugal governor 8 which comprises balls 37 acting between a dished member 114 fixed axially on a shaft 111 and a chain-wheel 112, by which the governor is driven, axially movable on the shaft. The member 114 is loaded by an adjustable spring 42 so that the force applied by the shaft 111 to a valve member 96 is the difference between the spring force and the governor force. The governor force is also effective on a valve member 97 constituted by an extension of the chain-wheel 112. The valve members 96, 97, outlets from conduits 60, 7, respectively, fed by pumps 26, 2, thereby controlling the servopistons 68, 10 which are connected to the conduits 60, 7. The outlets from the valve members 96, 97 and the low-pressure sides of the servo-pistons 10, 68 are connected to the fuel tank 3 through a valve 103 which maintains the pressure slightly above atmospheric. Restrictions 77, 80 in the connections to the servo-piston 10 prevent displacement of the latter by sudden forces produced by rotary oscillations of the pump shaft 15. The servopiston 68 is also subject, in the lower part of the speed range of the engine, to control by a valve member 90 which controls a further outlet from the conduit 60 and is subject to the pressures in the conduits 7, 10 acting in opposition to a spring 92. To cause the injection pump 1 to give a high delivery for starting the engine a spring-loaded piston valve 83 is inserted in the conduit 60 between the servo-piston 68 and the valve member 96. This valve 83 is normally held by pressure in the conduit 7 in the position shown in which it does not interrupt the conduit 60 but when the engine is being started lack of pressure in the conduit 7 causes the valve 83 to interrupt the conduit 60 whereby the servo-piston 68, being subject to the full delivery pressure of the pump 26, overcomes a spring-loaded stop 70.
