Abstract
818,699. Regulating. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Aug. 15, 1957 [Aug 22, 1956], No. 25730/57. Class 7(6) [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] Apparatus for adjusting the fuel injection timing of an internal combustion engine comprises a coupling for adjusting the angular relationship between the injection pump shaft and its driving shaft and movable by a spring-loaded servopiston sensitive to variations of pressure in a pipe 7 having a governor controlled leakoff valve 56, the governor also controlling directly the quantity of fuel delivered by adjustment of a lever 23. The governor consists of a dished member 36 urged towards the left by a spring 42 and rotatable by a chain-driven 'sprocket 34. Balls 37 guided by a cage 38 are rotated with the member 36 and react against a face of the sprocket 34 to increase the force applied to the valve 56 through an abutment 32 and pin 33 as the speed of the engine increases thereby to increase the pressure in the pipe 7 and cause movement of the servo-piston. When a predetermined speed is reached the axial component of the centrifugal force on the balls 37 compresses the spring 42 to move members 52, 21 and the lever 23 to reduce the fuel supply. The loading of the spring 42 is adjustable by a lever 50. The pressure fluid in the pipe 7 is fuel delivered by a pump which supplies the injection pump and provides a surplus for circulation through the pipe 7. In a modification, the valve 56 is formed as a piston valve which is opened by movement of ports beyond the end of a bore in which the valve is slidable.
