Abstract

643,246. Regulating. C.A.V., Ltd. Aug. 28, 1948. No. 22742. [Class 7(vi)] A temporary increase in the fuel supply on opening of a throttle valve t is effected by a diapragm d which temporarily closes a switch o, and thus energizes an electromagnet r which moves the control rod of a fuel injection pump q. The diaphragm d has a hole g closed by a lightly spring- loaded valve h which has a small orifice k. During normal running the pressures in the chambers b and e are equal and the switch o is open. On acceleration, the rise in pressure in the induction pipe f is transmitted to chamber b by a pipe e and the diaphragm d is raised to close the switch o. The pressures in chambers b, c, slowly equalize through the orifice k, which returns the diaphragm d to its equilibrium position and opens the switch o to allow the pump control rod to return to its normal running position. When the valve t is closed, the increased suction in the chamber b opens the valve h to equalize the pressures in the chambers b, c, immediately, leaving the diaphragm unaffected.
