Abstract
758,606. Regulating; starting direct injection engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Aug. 19, 1954 [Oct. 2, 1953], No. 24217/54. Classes 7(3) and 7(6) The control rod 5 of a fuel injection pump 1 is controlled by a spring-loaded diaphragm 6 actuated by induction pipe suction transmitted through a pipe 7 so that the pump delivery increases with increasing induction pipe pressure to maintain a substantially constant fuel-air ratio up to a predetermined pressure, when the diaphragm 6 is acted upon by a rod 9 actuated by a second spring- loaded diaphragm 10 subjected to intake pipe pressure through a pipe 11, which rod 9 produces an increase in the fuel-air ratio. The diaphragm 10 abuts against a stop 13 when the intake pipe suction is high, e.g. when the air throttle valve is, almost closed, and when the throttle valve is suddenly opened the inertia of the rod 9 striking the diaphragm 6 produces a temporary increase in fuel supply for acceleration. A cock 15 in the pipe 11 is turned at starting to connect the suction space above the diaphragm 10 to atmosphere to produce a rich fuel-air ratio for starting. The diaphragms 6, 10 may be replaced by pistons.
