[Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The regulating rack 7 of a fuel-injection pump is actuated by a speed governor 10, the loading spring 14 of which is adjusted by a pedal 19 which is also connected through a spring buffer 27 to a coupling 21 which varies the tune of the beginning of injection. The rod 26 is connected to the piston 36 of a dashpot which has a leakage passage 40 with a fixed orifice 42 at one end and a smaller orifice 44 in a flap valve 43 fitted at the other end. This arrangement causes the adjustment of the timing of injection to lag behind the adjustment of the spring 14 to a greater extent during acceleration of the engine than during deceleration. Fig. 3 shows a pneumatic speed governor wherein the regulating rack 7 is connected to a spring loaded diaphragm 50 and the chamber 48 is connected to a Venturi in the air induction pipe 45 of the engine. The throttle 46 is actuated by the pedal 52 which is connected through a spring buffer 27 and dashpot 57 to the coupling 21. The leakage passage 59 is fitted with a spring loaded valve 61 having a throttle bore 64 and throttle passages 63. The area of flow is greater in one direction than in the other.
