[Class 57] The rack 14 controlling the output of a fuelinjection pump 10 is actuated by a spring- loaded diaphragm 15 exposed to vacuum existing in a Venturi 24 in the air induction pipe of an internal-combustion engine. A manually operated throttle valve 23 is located in the Venturi. The speed of the engine is prevented from exceeding a maximum value by a spring loaded unbalanced throttle valve 25 closing under excessive flow of air and increasing the vacuum affecting the diaphragm 15. A pipe 21<1> may connect the chamber 201 to the air induction pipe at a point located in front of the valve 25. In order to vary the ratio of fuel to air injected during normal running speeds, a nozzle 29, having its axis in a plane parallel to the axis of the induction pipe, may be fitted to the end of the pipe 21, the nozzle may be adjusted by rotary movement. In a modification, the valve 25 may be replaced by a valve 41 in a pipe 37 connecting the air induction pipe 22 to the chamber 20. The valve 41 is actuated by a spring- loaded diaphragm 45 exposed to induction pressure and atmospheric pressure so that when the maximum speed is reached the valve 41 cuts off communication between the pipe 22 and chamber 20 and thus causes the fuel to be reduced. When the engine is stationary the valve 41 is closed and together with the plug 44 may be used to vary the fuel to air ratio during normal speeds. In a further modification the valve 41 is in the form of a blade spring which closes a port upon an increase in speed of the air passing to chamber 20.
