Abstract

[Class 7 (vi).] The speed of an engine working with injection of fuel is governed automatically by means producing both a static vacuum and a dynamic vacuum in the induction pipe, the former acting chiefly at lower speeds, and the latter chiefly at higher speeds, the combined effect being transmitted to the fuel control member by means of a servomotor. The Figure shows an air-induction pipe 8 fitted with a throttle valve 9 which produces the static vacuum, and with Venturi constrictions 10, 10a which produce the dynamic vacuum, the resulting effect being transmitted by a tube 15 to a piston 24, which adjusts the timing of the fuel pump 16 by means of a rack and pinion 22, 23. In a modification, the throttle is placed on the engine side of the Venturi constrictions, and separate tubes lead from the two devices to the piston 24 through a rotary cook connected to the throttle pedal 9b. More than two Venturi constrictions may be arranged one within the other.
