Abstract

534,124. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Dec. 28, 1939, No. 33005. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1938. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] In a fuel-injection engine in which, for assisting the formation of the mixture, a motion of the air around the axis of the cylinder is produced by means such as a baffle 6 on the air-inlet valve 4, the valve and baffle are adjusted automatically in dependence on the magnitude of a variable arising from the running of the engine. In one form, Fig. 1, the valves 4 of a multicylinder engine are adjusted by a piston 19 actuated by pressure from an engine-driven pump 24 and returned by a spring 22, the branch 29 of the delivery pipe 27 being provided with a restricted orifice 30. The piston 19 acts through a rod 18 carrying pins 16 engaging between leaf-springs 14 on arms 12 on the valve spindles 10, to allow those valves to be turned which are in the open position. In a modification, Fig. 2, the valves are adjusted in dependence on the pressure acting through a servo device. The stem 43 of a piston 42 actuated by the pressure carries a piston valve 41 controlling the admission and escape of pressure fluid to and from a cylinder 56, in which the pressure acts upon a servo piston 33 secured to the rod 18. Return springs 32, 52 act on the piston 33 and on the stem 43 of the piston 42. In a further modification, the leaf-springs 14 are omitted and the arms 12 are connected to the valve spindles 10 by tension springs serving as the loading springs for the valves.
