509,840. Speed governors. PRECISION MECANIQUE. Jan. 21, 1938, No. 2123. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1937. [Class 57] [Also in Group XXVII] In apparatus for regulating the fuel supply by means of a piston or like member subjected to the difference in pressure at opposite sides of the throttle valve, the cross-section of a part of the apparatus through which such difference in pressure is exerted is varied so that the ratio dh<1>/dN remains substantially constant; where h<1> is the pressure acting on the piston, and N is the engine speed. The Figure shows a control piston subject to the difference in pressure at opposite sides of the throttle valve 7 in the induction pipe, through passages 5, 8, the cross-section of the former passage being varied by a valve 9 connected to the piston. In a modification, the sides of the throttle to which the passages 5, 8 are connected are reversed, and the valve 9 is shaped to decrease the area of flow as the piston moves to the left. In another form, the passage 5 and the valve 9 are arranged as in the Figure, but the passage 8 is open to atmosphere and is controlled by a throttle valve linked to the throttle 7.
