Fluid relays.-In an internal - combustion engine wherein the amount of fuel drawn into the cylinder is controlled by varying the lift of the inlet valve, the valve thrust rod is moved relatively to the cam path by a servo-motor connected to a centrifugal governor. Fig. 1 shows the end of the thrust rod d, contacting by a roller e with the roller lever f moved by the cam f<1>. A governor operates the slide valve o of the servo-motor, the piston of which is connected to one arm k of a bell-crank, the other arm h, of which is connected to the end of the thrust rod.
