Cam-actuated pumps ; stroke, varying ; regulating delivery by opening suction valves ; valvegear ; valves, arrangement of.-In a fuel pump for internal-combustion engines in which the plunger 5 is operated by a cam 3 and returned by a spring 6, direct transmission control gear such as the linkwork 17, 16. 14, 18 is arranged between the plunger and the suction valve 10 whereby the valve always closes at the same moment irrespective of the plunger stroke adjustment, which may be effected by a sliding arm 8 between the cam and plunger. In another form, the suction valve carries a coupling member or yoke engaged by a head on the plunger, and the plunger is screwed into the guide 4 to enable the moment of injection to be adjusted. Or this adjustment may be effected by means of a wedge between the guide 4 and the control arm 8.
