Regulating delivery by opening bye-passes.-In a fuel pump for internalcombustion engines the bye-pass 8 is closed by a slide valve 7 during the first part of the delivery stroke of the plunger 3, and is then opened at a variable moment to interrupt the delivery. The valve is operated by the plunger lever 12 through a rod 13 and lever 14, 16 mounted on an eccentric 19, which may be adjusted by hand or governor to vary the time of opening the bye-pass. In another form, one edge of the valve is inclined and the valve is rotated by hand or governor to vary the moment at which the inclined edge opens the bye-pass.
