Abstract

348,097. Reciprocating pumps. JUNKERS, H., 21, Kaiserplatz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Nov. 1, 1929, No. 33302. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1928. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 102 (i).] Regulating delivery by opening and closing byepasses and suction valves.-In a fuel pump for Diesel engines the begining and end of the injection period are controlled by two inclined edges 7, 8 formed in a recess 10 cut in the pump piston 1, and controlling the opening and closing of the inlet port 4. During the delivery stroke of the piston, the fuel in the chamber 3 returns through the port 4 until the edge 7 closes it. Injection then begins, and continues until the edge 8 opens the port to the recess 10, which communicates with the chamber 3. By turning the piston by means of a lever 11, the beginning and duration of the injection are simultaneously varied. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the recess 12 in the piston communicates with the chamber 3 by a passage 13, and has a lower inclined edge 7 controlling the inlet port 4, and an upper edge 8 controlling a return port 14. During the first portion of the delivery stroke, the fuel returns from the chamber 3 to the port 4 until the edge 7 closes the latter. Injection then begins, and continues until the edge 8 uncovers the port 14. Rotation of the piston varies both the beginning and duration of the injection. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the upper edge controlling the inlet port 4 is only partly inclined, so that angular adjustment of the piston for varying the duration of injection by means of the lower edge 8 does not affect the beginning of injection until the inclined portion of the edge 7 comes into action.
