Abstract
296,407. Rasmussen, K.Aug. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Cam-and-lever-actuated pumps; regulating delivery by opening suction valves; valve gear; valves, arrangement of.-A fuel pump for engines comprises a plunger 28 actuated by a cam 48 and lever 51, which operates also the combined suction and delivery valve 25 through a reciprocating arm 53 and a lever 54 pivoted on an adjustable eccentric 55. The admission of fuel to the pump barrel is controlled by the upper end 39 of the valve coacting with a seat 35 on a ported member 36, and the delivery is controlled by the lower end 38 coacting with a seat 34. The quantity of fuel delivered is regulated by opening the inlet port at a variable point in the delivery stroke by means of an arm 60 on the lever 51 which, during the delivery stroke, engages an adjustable pin 59 on the arm 53 and lifts the tooth 57 out of engagement with the tooth 56 on the lever 54, so that the spring 44 may lower the valve 25 and connect the pump to suction. The duration of the delivery may be adjusted by a cam stop 61 engaging the arm 53 and connected to the governor. The point at which delivery begins is varied by adjusting the eccentric 55. In another form, the lever 54 is operated by a separate cam, and its pivot is carried by a lever adjustably pivoted on an eccentric and carrying the pin 59.
