Abstract

Eccentric-actuated pumps; springs, regulating delivery by bye-passes.-Fuel feed apparatus for internal-combustion engines comprises a fuel pump 1 which delivers the fuel through a pipe 16 to an accummulator chamber 17 from which it passes through a control valve 18 to a precombustion chamber 19 and thus through a port 20 into the cylinder. The pump plunger 7 is driven by an eccentric 12 and cross-head 10 with which the plunger head 9 is held in loose engagement by a spring 14. The delivery is regulated by a bye-pass valve 31 opened at a variable point in the delivery stroke by a lever 37 pivoted on an eccentric and rocked by a cam on the shaft 11, through an eccentrically mounted lever 34, and a rod 36. The time at which the valve 31 is opened may be varied by adjusting the eccentric 35 of the lever 34, and the duration of its opening by adjusting the eccentric 40 of the lever 37 or the screw 42. The valve 18 is operated by a cam 24 through a lever 25, rod 22, and lever 21, and its time of opening may be varied by adjusting the eccentric 26 of the lever 25. The amount of its opening may be varied by means of the nuts 27.
