Abstract

Lever-actuated pumps; tappet-actuated pumps; rods and rod guides; stroke, varying.-A fuelpump 6 for an internal-combustion engine is actuated by the movement of the cross-head 10 through a lever 9 pivotally mounted on an eccentric 11 on an adjustable shaft 12, which allows of simultaneous variation of stroke of all the pumps in the case of a multi-cylinder engine. Each lever has tappet action with the cross-head and pump plunger, the stroke of each pump being independently varied by an adjustment of the tappet screw 18 attached to the lever. The downward motion of the plunger and lever are limited by their respective stops 4a, 4b. A replaceable head 8 on the pump plungers serves to take wear, and lever 20 is for hand injection of the initial charge. The shaft 12 is maintained in position by the hand lever 14 engaging a quadrant 16.
